Finding this serene, green gem in a bustling part of Cape Town was a delightful surprise for us. Labotessa, created by Johan du Plessis and Jan Fourie, seamlessly marries historical charm with modern elegance. Housed in a meticulously restored 17th-century building, the hotel boasts seven distinctive suites and is celebrated for its intimate yet luxurious ambiance. Its prime location on Church Square offers convenient access to the vibrant city centre. The founders’ deep passion for history, art and luxury is evident in every detail, making Labotessa a top choice for even the most discerning travellers.

What are the rooms like?

Labotessa’s suites perfectly combine historical allure with modern sophistication. The rooms, featuring high ceilings and original French oak floors, are wrapped in a striking dark blue colour palette that exudes elegance. Each suite is uniquely designed, equipped with private lifts, Smeg kettles and Le Creuset stoneware. The Presidential Suite is particularly notable, with its expansive two-storey layout, three en-suite bedrooms, and breathtaking views of Table Mountain and the city. A standout feature is the inclusion of Diptyque toiletries, a luxurious and unique touch not commonly found in hotels, adding an extra layer of indulgence.

We loved enjoying drinks at the hotel’s Café & Terrace, located in a green corner of the square, complete with a charming fountain. The café offers a Dutch-inspired menu, featuring delights like Dutch appeltaart served with cream, a traditional apple pie, and bitterballen, deep-fried meat-filled snacks served with mustard. These treats nod to one of the founders’ Dutch heritage. Additionally, guests can explore the unique Fragrance Boutique, stocked with Diptique products, in the lobby, showcasing Labotessa’s commitment to unique and refined luxury.
