Once a historic post office in the 1930s, The Monarch Hotel is now a luxurious boutique hotel in Rosebank. This hotel only has 12 lavishly decorated rooms with antique-style furniture, but it’s the small details – like curated South African artworks and plush bathrobes – that make it feel personal. Dining at the on-site restaurant is a must. Ozzy’s at The Monarch Hotel, helmed by a MasterChef South Africa finalist, offers three beautifully curated menus with a focus on South African classics. We loved how quiet and intimate the space felt despite being just a short walk from Rosebank Mall and the Gautrain station.

Housed in a building originally modelled after a London manor house, 54 on Bath exudes timeless elegance. This boutique hotel offers 75 beautiful contemporary rooms but what we loved most was the rooftop pool – a quiet spot to unwind after a day exploring the city. The Level Four Restaurant deserves a special mention; the tasting menus and afternoon teas are a feast for both the eyes and the palate. Their famed high tea, served with bubbly, is a must-try. Being steps away from Rosebank Mall and the Keyes Art Mile is another huge plus!

The Radisson Red Hotel in Rosebank is a bold, modern addition to Johannesburg’s hotel scene, designed for younger, tech-savvy travellers and creative minds. This hotel’s aesthetic is inspired by art, music and fashion – it features rotating street art displays and custom African-print wallpapers, offering an ever-changing visual experience. The rooftop is the heart of this hotel, with a buzzing bar, a plunge pool and unbeatable views of Johannesburg’s skyline. We loved the easy-going but top-notch offerings at Oui Bar + Ktchn – perfect for a casual meal or cocktails with friends.

The Clico Boutique Hotel feels like Rosebank’s best-kept secret, housed in a charming 80-year-old Cape Dutch-style building that’s tucked away in a serene garden setting but only a short walk from the action. With just nine rooms, most of which feature views over the pool and beautiful gardens, the atmosphere is intimate and you don’t feel like you are minutes away from the buzzing city. The hotel’s signature restaurant, Sec, led by celebrated Chef Dario de Angeli offers a menu that is inspired by European flavours with just the right touch of local flair.

Hyde Johannesburg Rosebank brings a fresh bohemian vibe to Johannesburg’s upscale neighbourhood, marking the brand’s debut in Africa. This isn’t your cookie-cutter luxury stay – this hotel features bold colours, curated local art and thoughtful design touches like floor-to-ceiling windows and flamingo-pink accents. One of Hyde’s big draws is its connection to Proud Mary, a trendy restaurant and bar in the same building – which we think is stunning! The food is as stylish as the décor and the vibe is perfect for mingling or winding down after a busy day.
