Mix Cocktail Bar
Located on the trendy Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank, Mix Cocktail Bar is part of the exclusive Mesh Club but open to the public. The venue doubles as an art gallery, so your cocktail comes with a side of contemporary South African masterpieces. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light, making it an ideal setting for sundowners with panoramic views of Johannesburg. You must try one of their signature cocktails, we love the Net Nou Nie Negroni, featuring sour figs and the Paloma which is reimagined with vanilla and pink pepper. If you’re into live music, their weekly Jazz Club Sessions is a cool experience. Or pop by on a Saturday morning and enjoy their Bloody Mary-fueled Saturday brunch.

Sin+Tax
Hidden in plain sight, Sin+Tax has redefined what it means to enjoy cocktails in Johannesburg. Once a speakeasy with hidden entrances, Sin+Tax has evolved into a more open cocktail courtyard, while still retaining its exclusive edge. Since opening in 2016, it has won multiple awards, including South Africa’s Best Cocktail Bar in 2024. Sin+Tax is led by mixology maestro Julian Short, whose precision and creativity shine through in every pour – the Progressive Negroni is one of his signature drinks that you must try! At this cocktail bar, each drink is presented with an attention to detail that reflects Sin+Tax’s ethos: cocktails should be experiences.

At Marble cocktails are more than a side act – they’re part of a show that unfolds alongside the live-fire kitchen. Marble is well known for its breathtaking views of Johannesburg’s skyline, exceptional contemporary dining experience and top-notch cocktails. The chic interior flows out to a terrace offering panoramic views of Johannesburg, making it a top choice for sundowners or a pre-dinner drink. Marble’s mixologists craft drinks with the same care as their chefs, ensuring every cocktail pairs perfectly with the menu. A standout is their Jungle Fever cocktail, which features premium tequila with an exciting addition of smoked pineapple juice.

A Streetbar Named Desire
A Streetbar Named Desire is a stylish cocktail bar and tapas venue inspired by the literary classic. The decor takes centre stage, with its emerald-green walls, marble accents and eclectic touches creating a space that is simultaneously modern and nostalgic. Designed by the creative duo Jana + Koos, the interior reflects a playful take on sophistication. Cocktail highlights include the Epic Fornications – a blend of vodka, pear and elderflower, offering a crisp, fruity profile. If you enjoy a bit of spice go for the Gingerbread Mule, a zesty twist on the classic Moscow Mule. What sets this cocktail bar apart is its dual personality: casual enough for a laid-back evening yet polished enough for a special occasion.

Social on Main
If you’re looking for the local hangout spot, Social on Main is it. Social On Main is a buzzing neighborhood hub that’s part cocktail bar, part eatery and entirely dedicated to good vibes. Its all-weather deck is the perfect spot to sip creative cocktails while soaking in the Joburg sunshine or starry nights. Our favourite cocktail here is the Bloomin’ Good featuring blood orange gin, limoncello and citrus juice – fruity and delicious! If you like something a bit more classic, go for the Hibiscus and Basil Gin & Tonic, it’s a hit. We also love their Sunday bottomless mimosa brunch, usually accompanied by live music – always a great vibe out on the sunny deck.
