Mount Nelson

What’s the hotel in a nutshell?

Cape Town hotel Mount Nelson isn’t the kind of hotel you just stroll up to, it requires a bit of an entrance. Past its grand ornate, white-pillared arch, a world of luxury awaits. Known as The Pink Lady for its iconic blush facade, Mount Nelson, a Belmond Hotel, stands out as one of the finest in Africa. Established in 1899, this historic gem is set against the breathtaking backdrop of Table Mountain and offers a blend of colonial elegance and modern sophistication and features interiors by renowned designer Graham Viney. A highlight of our visits to Cape Town is their famous Afternoon Tea, a beloved tradition that draws both locals and visitors, making it an experience we never miss.

What are the rooms like?

The 198 rooms and suites at Mount Nelson exude luxury and comfort, each spacious and meticulously decorated, featuring classic decor with contemporary touches. Amenities include air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars and marble bathrooms with walk-in showers. The garden cottages are particularly charming, offering private entrances and secluded gardens. For a more lavish experience, the Presidential Suite stands out with its opulent design and stunning views. In particular, we’d like to praise the impeccable housekeeping and the serene, comfortable atmosphere of the rooms, complemented by an impeccable turndown service.

What else?

The hotel offers an array of dining options, including the acclaimed Lord Nelson Restaurant, known for its gourmet cuisine, and the Planet Bar, celebrated for its sophisticated cocktails. Guests can unwind in the serene spa, enjoy a range of treatments or stay active in the well-equipped fitness centre and yoga classes. For those who love the outdoors, the hotel provides tennis courts, a heated pool and guided bicycle tours. Our favourite spot is the pool area with its inviting loungers, perfect for sipping Sauvignon Blanc all afternoon long. Families are well-catered for with a dedicated kids’ club and babysitting services.

What’s the city like?

Cape Town, spread out beneath the iconic Table Mountain, is a vibrant metropolis that captivates with its urban buzz and natural beauty. From the bustling Victoria & Alfred Waterfront to the colourful Bo-Kaap district with its cobblestone streets and vibrant houses, each neighbourhood offers a unique glimpse into the city’s rich cultural tapestry. Sea Point and Green Point are beloved for their seaside promenades and diverse dining options, while De Waterkant charms with its narrow streets lined with trendy boutiques and cafes. The Central Business District (CBD) buzzes with business activity and historic landmarks, contrasting with the lush greenery of Gardens and the upscale residential vibes of Clifton and Camps Bay, renowned for their stunning beaches and glamorous lifestyle. Cape Town, located in South Africa’s Western Cape province, seamlessly blends modern sophistication with an unmistakable African flair.
