Pure Sea Boutique Lodge sits on the Walker Bay coast, roughly a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Cape Town, set in the Romansbaai Private Fynbos Estate. Designed with minimalist, biophilic intent, the lodge uses natural materials such as wood, stone and rattan to blend into its coastal surroundings. With just four ocean‑facing suites – namely Khoi, San, Olokun and Namaka – it keeps things intimate and calm. Floor-to-ceiling windows and private decks deliver direct views and access to a near-private stretch of beach. From July through November, you can often spot whales from your room or while walking the shoreline. It’s eco-conscious and adults-only, with a strong lean into slow living, featuring sea-view pools, wood-fired hot tubs and spa services.

Bosjes Herehuis is the original Cape Dutch manor at Bosjes Farm, embraced by the Waaihoek & Slanghoek mountains and surrounded by vineyards, orchards and fynbos. It dates back to the late 1700s and underwent a sensitive expansion led by architect Tiaan Meyer. Ten separate guest suites sit around shaded courtyards, each with en-suite bathrooms and private balconies or garden views. The centrepiece is the Kombuis & Spens restaurant, which serves breakfast and dinner using farm-grown produce. The former stables, renovated with interior designer Liam Mooney and Tiaan Meyer, now house Die Stalle Spa. Launched in 2021, it features hydro pools and sauna services in a modern, light-filled space. On the grounds, you’ll find a canopy walk (Boombrug), a labyrinth and a tea garden, plus a deli with local jams and goods.

Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel is the sort of place that makes you forget the outside world entirely. With just 16 rooms and suites, privacy is a given, but it’s the artful blend of raw textures – weathered wood, stone and glass – and wide-open ocean views that truly set the mood. The architecture invites nature in – bedrooms open onto private terraces and the only soundtrack is the crash of waves and the call of gulls. We love the on-site restaurant, Leeto Restaurant, helmed by West Coast chef Garth Almazan, whose menu dives deep into seasonal, local ingredients. Another highlight of staying here is the small spa and heated outdoor pool. But honestly, it’s the simple luxury of slipping out at dawn to watch fishing boats bobbing in the surf that stays with you.

A three-hour drive from Cape Town lands you in a remote slice of paradise at Lekkerwater Beach Lodge, set within De Hoop Nature Reserve’s private concession. It’s framed by a 34,000-hectare conservation area and the UNESCO-listed Cape Floristic Region. Just seven eco-suites sit above a six‑kilometre stretch of secluded beach, each with floor-to-ceiling windows, a private deck and breezy coastal décor. There’s no TV or air-conditioning, reinforcing its off-grid ethos. Days are filled with guided marine walks, fynbos hikes, bird watching and archaeological site visits. Between July and November, you can enjoy some of the country’s best land-based whale watching. Communal meals, beach picnics, roaring firepit evenings and a sense of raw coastal energy make this a soulful journey back to nature.
