Botany House

Cape Town, South Africa

Below Table Mountain in Cape Town’s Gardens district, Botany House distills retreat into quintessence. This five-room boutique house is not a hotel chain bolt-hole but a small, highly curated hideaway with mid-century modern interiors and bespoke pieces sourced from South African designers. Each room – from the poolside suite to the garden-facing loft – feels individual, with king beds, rain showers, Nespresso and terraces that look out over lush landscaping and the city edge. The heated pool and private gardens cut a rare stillness in urban Cape Town, and personalised service shapes experiences from yoga sessions to bespoke walking tours.

Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof

Cape Town, South Africa

Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof marks Canopy’s first South African debut in the revitalised Longkloof district, a creative, walkable neighbourhood of galleries, boutiques and cafés just off Kloof Street in Gardens, Cape Town. The 154-room hotel repurposes a 112-year-old red-brick building with design by Hilton that foregrounds local art, natural light and bespoke oak floors, reflecting the city’s creative pulse. Bedrooms range from city-view doubles to suites with terraces and mountain views. At its heart is Ongetem, the signature restaurant and bar by celebrated South African chef Bertus Basson, serving bold locally inspired dishes in a social setting. With long windows, dynamic public spaces and proximity to Table Mountain, the hotel feels both rooted and thoroughly contemporary.

Cape Cadogan

Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Cadogan offers a stylish city stay with a touch of historic charm. Located in the lively Gardens neighbourhood, this hotel is housed in a building with National Monument status, dating back to the early 1800s. The recent refurbishment has brought a sophisticated style with emerald greens, classic black and white and touches of gold. The hotel features two pools, perfect for cooling off on warm Cape Town days. You can also enjoy treatments at the onsite spa or keep up with your fitness routine at the hotel gym. The hotel’s restaurant, Upper Union, is also worth mentioning, offering a seasonal menu inspired by global flavours.

Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel & Spa

Cape Town, South Africa

Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel & Spa is actually five interlinked Victorian-era townhouses at the foot of Table Mountain in Gardens, a stone’s throw from the CBD’s edge. Each townhouse retains its Edwardian façades while opening up internally to reveal contemporary suites with luxe linens, bespoke art and high-end appliances. We’re especially fond of the Mountain Club Bistro, where 360-degree city and mountain views set the scene for small-plate dining and signature cocktails. Afterwards, slip into the spa for an African Gold Quartz body treatment or unwind by one of two plunge pools on the sun terrace. We also love that Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel & Spa offers a quiet library and rotating contemporary-art exhibitions, adding even more excitement to your stay without having to set foot outside.

Mount Nelson

Cape Town, South Africa

Mount Nelson, known locally as The Nellie, has stood beneath Table Mountain since 1899, its sugar-pink façades and nine acres of gardens a constant in Cape Town’s Gardens neighbourhood. The 198-room Belmond property blends historic presence with evolving hospitality: expansive suites with classic proportions and marble bathrooms sit alongside contemporary dining and bar concepts. Oasis Bistro serves lunches by the pool, The Verandah offers hyper-seasonal evening menus, Planet Bar pours cocktails and champagne and The Red Room by Chefs Warehouse delivers Pan-Asian plates in an intimate subterranean setting. Traditional Afternoon Tea remains a city fixture, held in the lounge or garden. A spa, fitness and tennis complete a city escape that still feels rooted in place.

Noah House

Cape Town, South Africa

Low down on Signal Hill’s slopes in Tamboerskloof, a neighbourhood in Cape Town, Noah House is a 10-room guest house built in 1892. Dutch owners Sarina and Gerald van Engelen bought it in late 2019 and reworked the Victorian shell with stained glass, tiled arches and a pared-back monochrome interior of marble tops and herringbone oak veneer floors. Help-yourself tea and coffee stations sit on both levels and a 4pm tea spread fills the bar. Book a sundowner ride in their Land Rover or an aperitivo on Friday and Saturday in summer. There’s no pool on-site but guests can use sister property Âmé by Noah’s.

Return Africa Welgelegen House

Cape Town, South Africa

Just off Kloof Street, in Oranjezicht, a leafy residential neighbourhood edging Cape Town’s centre, Return Africa Welgelegen House runs on grown-up calm. Two restored Victorian buildings hold 14 rooms around a lounge and dining room, with double doors to a courtyard pool and loungers. The look is pared back: muted colours, texture from brick and wallpaper, high ceilings, walk-in showers and carpets that soften street noise. Downstairs reception is discreet and staffed 24/7. An honesty bar makes the house feel lived-in. Only breakfast is served: buffet basics then eggs to order.

Black Sheep

Cape Town, South Africa

Making your way to the table through the buzzy space, Black Sheep is like coming home – the same look, the same chalkboard menu and the same lively vibe, year after year. Since opening in 2013, this Kloof Street fixture has been serving unpretentious, hearty food with global flavours. Run by the Japha and Silva families, the restaurant offers an ever-changing menu, with dishes like Burmese pork curry, kingklip fillet with garam masala and lentil coconut curry. Desserts like sticky toffee pudding and lemon cheesecake add a sweet finish. With its laidback atmosphere and loyal following, booking is a must to secure a spot at this beloved local gem.

Blondie

Cape Town, South Africa

Blondie is built for quick drop-ins that turn into long hangs. The room is tight and bright with wall-to-wall tiles, a bar that keeps orders moving and a soundtrack that pushes conversation closer. The menu reads like snacks for sharing: pita please with tahini, cauliflower, watermelon and other small plates that suit a second round. Drinks carry the attitude – Palomas, Martinis and a nod to ouzo, with grapefruit showing up where you want bite. It’s busy most nights and happiest when you arrive early, claim a stool and let the evening stack up. It sits in Gardens, close to the City Bowl drift.

Café Sofi

Cape Town, South Africa

Off Kloof Street, Café Sofi lands with the kind of confidence you can’t fake. Stripes, soft yellows, deep manganese blues – a room that reads eccentric but pulled together properly. The story is Sophia Electra, mother of Natasha and Savva Sideris of Tashas fame, and the menu mirrors her style: honest food with a wink. Mornings start with the city’s most talked-about croissant with honey and crème fraîche. Lunch moves to coronation chicken, tuna on sourdough, and salads with bite. Evenings lean into pasta, grilled fish and a perfectly judged tiramisu. Order a Sofi Spritz, find a corner and let the room do the rest. Longkloof just got a new default meeting point.

Chingada’s

Cape Town, South Africa

Chingada’s is putting authentic Mexican cooking centre stage with a brash, no-rules approach that’s a breath of fresh air. The owners are determined to keep things lively, unpretentious and, above all, authentic – tacos hit the table overflowing with braised short rib, grilled fish or house-pickled veg and the tortillas are made fresh each morning. The interior comes alive with textures and bright colours, with a mural that draws the eye and gives the space a sense of personality. Step up to the bar and you’ll find an entire wall devoted to small-batch tequilas and mezcals sourced directly from independent producers in Mexico. The selection goes deep, with rare bottles that highlight the earthy, smoky, and sometimes wild side of agave spirits. If you’re craving that fiesta spirit, layered flavours and a setting that’s anything but shy, Chingada’s is the place to be right now.

Ëlgr

Cape Town, South Africa

On Cape Town’s Kloof Street in the City Bowl, a discreet frontage opens into Ëlgr, a moody room conceived during lockdown by Swedish chef Jesper Nilsson at launch. It took over the old Janse & Co address and splits into zones: a bright street-facing banquette area, a darker dining core set with slate tableware, then a courtyard packed with plants, a bar, café chairs, a corner sofa and a pizza oven. Drinks lean social: crafted cocktails and rosé on tap. Food runs seasonal and shareable, with plant-led plates, raw beef with dill and trout roe and linefish with tomatoes and olives. Book ahead on weekends.

Kloof Street House

Cape Town, South Africa

Low light and a lived-in Victorian mood set the tone in Cape Town neighbourhood Gardens. Kloof Street House spreads across rooms dressed with pressed-metal ceilings, fringed chandeliers, brick shelves and stacks of books, then spills into a garden when the evening is warm. Start at the bar, then move to dinner for the grilled ostrich: wholegrain mustard, sweet potato mash, smoked paprika, brandy and green peppercorn cream, green beans and crisp Parma ham. Dessert is sticky malva pudding with crème anglaise, vanilla pod ice cream, grilled pineapple and pistachio. Book ahead for weekends.

Ongetem

Cape Town, South Africa

Ongetem is chef Bertus Basson’s first City Bowl venture (inside Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof) and it’s defiantly down-to-earth. Basson says he’s not trying to be a hotel restaurant – instead, he built Ongetem as a welcoming neighbourhood spot. The interior feels homey with dark timber, open fires, vintage posters and Edison bulbs under a high ceiling. The menu is equally straightforward – no pea shoots, no foam, no drama – just seasonal cooking and Cape classics given a fresh edge. Some dishes that steal the show are flame-grilled steaks, open-fire breads, local mussels and a traditional lamb stew. We love the little details like the neon logo sign, which proudly reads – Butcher, Baker, Cocktail Maker. Ongetem delivers what Basson promised – a bold, wild and untamed counterpoint to Cape Town’s fancier tables.

True to its name, Our Local celebrates local flavours and community spirit. Located inside an antique store and nursery on the trendy Kloof street, this café is a favourite among locals for its welcoming atmosphere and hearty breakfast options. With a focus on locally sourced ingredients, the dishes here are fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented. The Arnold Bennett is worth the hype, it’s an unusual breakfast but trust us when we say it’s worth a try! If you like a more traditional breakfast, the Smashed Avo Toast and Creme Bru Lee French Toast is a hit.

Tamboerswinkel

Cape Town, South Africa

In Cape Town neighbourhood Tamboerskloof, this corner shop-café pulls double duty as a speciality grocer, deli, café and wine bar. Tamboerswinkel is for last-minute fixes: a flat white, fresh bakes, pantry bits, something decent to take home. The shelves lean hard on wine and staff push weekly line-ups with tastings and small events. Pizza Party nights are a local ritual, usually midweek, with Neapolitan-style pies from Pizza Proper and a simple pairing deal with draught beer or house wine. The vibe is help-yourself and unforced: grab a stool, browse, leave with olives, charcuterie and a bottle you did not plan on buying. It works for solo drop-ins and low-key meet-ups.

Thali Restaurant, part of the Chefs Warehouse group, was conceptualised by renowned chef Liam Tomlin. Chef Tomlin has created a tapas-style dining experience, a journey through Indian-inspired small plates, perfect for sharing and exploring a variety of flavours in one meal. Standout vegan dishes include the crispy cauliflower pakoras and the vegetable biryani. The interior is a blend of traditional and modern elements. Vibrant Indian decor, including intricate patterns and rich fabrics, adorns the space, it feels like you have been transported to another world. Upper Union is the restaurant at Cape Cadogan boutique hotel, run by More Family Collection. Chef Amori Burger builds a seasonal menu of bold share plates with global cues, designed for passing round and talking over. Breakfast is made to order, mornings run unhurried. The room carries that same charge: a lunchtime hum, then a shift into cocktails and wine as the evening tightens. Mixologists run bespoke drinks and a sommelier steers pairings across South African bottles and international picks. There is also a private dining room for birthdays and small takeovers. In 2025 it earned an Eat Out Woolworths One Star.

Zuney Wagyu Burgers

Cape Town, South Africa

Zuney Wagyu Burgers on Kloof Street is all about celebrating the rich, intense flavours of Wagyu. This spot has a simple menu, but each option is a standout. Try the Classic, Cheeseburger or the Wacon (with Wagyu bacon), each stacked with flavour-packed ingredients like Wagyu-infused onions, crisp pickles and a secret house sauce, all on a soft brioche bun. Even the fries go big on flavour, fried in Wagyu tallow for an extra hit of richness. Headed by chef Lemar Desamparado, this spot isn’t about frills or fuss – just seriously delicious burgers that let the quality of their Eastern Cape farm-raised Wagyu take centre stage.

Ogun

Cape Town, South Africa

Ogūn is a wardrobe reset for days when you want your clothes to get out of the way. Founded in 2017, the label makes menswear and womenswear in natural tones, leaning on clean shapes and functional details. Start with the Five-Pocket Corduroy Jacket, a boxy workwear layer in midweight cord with five pockets. For heat, the Bowler Shirt does a short-sleeve, notched-collar cut with a straight hem. Women get a cropped Bowler version in a linen-rich viscose blend. Fabrics stay practical: corduroy, linen and cotton. Colours sit in stone, navy, grey, oatmeal, black and olive. Add tees, caps and bags, then leave before you start overthinking it.

Olive Branch Deli

Olive Branch Deli brings a refreshing Mediterranean influence to Cape Town’s deli scene, which we found truly unique. The deli has a truly warm and inviting atmosphere, with shelves stocked full of Mediterranean delicacies such as Greek coffee, Cypriot halloumi, baklava, hummus, Greek yoghurt, olive oil and a variety of legumes and seeds. The emphasis is on high-quality, thoughtfully selected products that cater to a range of tastes. We love the Spice Apothecary display with a large selection of herbs in glass containers that you can pick and choose from. Also, look out for the African Oils oil selection, they are hard to miss with their colourful labels – the smoked olive oil infused with chilli & garlic and the apricot kernel oil is a must!

Christopher Moller Art Gallery

Cape Town, South Africa

At Kloof Nek, where Kloof Street starts to tilt towards the mountain, Christopher Moller Gallery in Gardens sits in a house and keeps its focus tight: contemporary African art, with select artists from abroad when the work earns its place. Founded in 2007 and owned by Christopher Moller and Jaco Claassen, it programmes regular exhibitions and shows at art fairs, so the hang changes often. On the walls, expect a mix of painting, photography and sculpture, spanning established South African names and newer voices, presented without fuss.
